This ambitious and fascinating project gathered a spectacular team of historians, curators, designers, and researchers to work on creation of the first Museum of Jewish History in Russia.
What was the project about ?
This ambitious and fascinating project gathered a spectacular team of historians, curators, designers, and researchers. Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA; New York City), an international design firm with considerable experience in creating Jewish and Holocaust-related museums, won a competition to design the museum using cutting-edge technology and interactivity. The Museum opened in 2012 in the former bus garage in Moscow, and became the first of its kind in Russia.
What was my role ?
I navigated all the ups and downs as we proceeded sifting through a myriad of sources – photographs, ephemera, books, periodicals, and film footage to create an object-based exhibition with elements of sound, immersive installations, and interactive presentations. As part of the RAA visual team, I helped to research and select images for about 5000 photographs, 200 artifacts, and 34 films, 32 digital interactives, and 8 maps. All of these elements contributed to the detailed narrative of the history of Jewish people in the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union
I had to deliver rare materials on time while working under tight deadlines. It was challenging yet a lot of fun to work with such an amazing team!
