I specialize in translations of historical documents, letters, diaries, and genealogical records. I work with Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, Hebrew, and Yiddish. It is not unusual for records from the early 20th century to suffer water or other kind of damage, which makes the process more challenging and at the same time, so much more fun!

One of my recent projects involved translating a diary from the time of World War I, from Russian (with bits of Hebrew and German), which belonged to the man of Jewish background, originally from Odessa, being kept a prisoner of war in Lithuania.

I also translate Ukrainian poetry into English, including the poetry of Yevhen Pluzhnyk, Mykola Bazhan, Oleh Olzhych, Hryts’ko Chubai, Marjana Savka, Serhiy Zhadan, and Kateryna Babkina.  My translations has been published in Kalyna Language Press, The Wagon Magazine, and National Translation Month (forthcoming fall 2018). Currently I am working on a book of poetry translations of an important Ukrainian poet, Mykol Bazhan (1904-1983), whose early experimental work had been overshadowed by the later Social realism and the Party ideological tendencies.
