What was the project about?
As part of COJECO Blueprint fellowship, I received a grant to develop a project for the Russian-Jewish community in NYC. I focused on Kultur-lige - a Jewish creative movement that connected a number of cultural and social organizations formed in the 1920s and 1930s, predominantly in Eastern Europe. The movement was founded in Kiev in 1918, and aimed to promote the development of all spheres of contemporary Yiddish culture, including education, literature, theater, art, and music.

What was my role?
I researched Kultur-lige’s history through the art of children’s illustrated books, and traced this movement’s connections to Ukrainian avant-garde scene. I prepared a presentation and a slide-show, and hired a calligrapher and a musician, whose stories were weaved together in an evening of art and music that took place at the YIVO Institute of Jewish Research.
